Value Portrait Drawing with Pattern Background

In this unit, students will create a graphite photo-realistic portrait with a pattern background.

The unit includes five exercises, one finished composition, a rubric and reflection.

Project Instructions: Value Portrait Drawing with Pattern Background

This project provides an opportunity to apply blending techniques and creating the illusion of a three-dimensional form in front of a contrasting pattern background.

   You'll need:
  • Final Drawing Paper (9"x12")
  • A photograph of a person you want to draw (the head should be about three inches tall)
  • Drawing Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Tortillon
