Value Portrait Drawing with Pattern Background

In this unit, students will create a graphite photo-realistic portrait with a pattern background.

The unit includes five exercises, one finished composition, a rubric and reflection.

Background Patterns Exercise

This exercise helps you make compositional decisions - thinking about negative space as well as positive space, organic and geometric shapes, and practice using proper glue technique.

  • Cereal Box or Index Card, X-acto Knife & Cutting Mat for creating a Template
