PAPER MACHE BUST OF A FAMOUS SCULPTOR

Research 4 Artists and Claim Your Favorite - Make a Slide Show with 3+ views of the artist and 10+ sculptures they have made, plus 5+ sentences about their artwork
Design your bust plan - half should be a representational portrait of the artist, and half should represent the art they make
Create an interior structure for your bust - this could be cardboard, paper, foil, balloon, etc.
Paper mache everything so that it is a sturdy structure from which to build details.
Add details with paper mache, joint compound, air dry clay, and/or a cement-like compound to bring your bust to life.
Paint everything. You can choose to paint it one color to mimic a stone bust, or you can paint it representationally.

INSTRUCTION

  • RESEARCH 4 ARTISTS - Claim your favorite sculptor and make a slide show about them and their work - 3+ views of the artist, 10+ sculptures they have made, 5+ sentences about their work
  • INTERIOR BUST STRUCTURE - Create an interior form that holds the volume you want to make. This could be cardboard, paper, foil, and/or balloon, etc.
  • PAPER MACHE - Paper mache the volume so that you have a sturdy structure from which to add details
  • DETAILS - the right half should be a representational depiction of the artist, the left side should be a representation of their sculpture style - you can use paper mache, paper mache clay, air dry clay, joint compound, and/or a cement-like compound to build up your details. Paper mache clay is probably the most versatile choice.
  • PAINT - you can choose to paint it one color to mimic a stone bust or you can paint it representationally.

ADVANCED IDEAS

  • USE THE MATERIAL THE ARTIST WOULD USE IN THEIR SCULPTURE INSTEAD OF PAPER MACHE FOR THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCULPTURE
  • CREATE A PLINTH FOR UNDERNEATH THE BUST WITH THE ARTIST'S NAME ENGRAVED ON IT
