INSTRUCTION

  • RESEARCH (look at statement necklaces, research at least one historic piece related to what you want to make, get inspiration from others who have come before you, combine ideas from what you have seen and what you create in your own mind)
  • DESIGN A PIECE WITH MULTIPLE PARTS  (drawing with notations)
    • Your design should incorporate different elements that add variety, but also look like they belong together to create a unified piece. In your reflection, you will need to account for how you created both variety and unity in your piece.
  • MAKE ALL THE DISPARATE PARTS (should involve at least some metal work and at a minimum 3 different parts that are combined together)
  • SOLDER & JOIN (combine all the disparate parts)
  • FINISHING (files, sand, buff, and polish your finished project)

ADVANCED IDEAS

  • RECREATING A STATMENT PIECE FROM A HISTORICAL TIME PERIOD
  • COMBINING DIFFERENT MATERIALS (METAL, WOOD, STONE, ETC.)
  • COMBINING DIFFERENT TEXTURES (CHASING)
  • USING A MOLD TO CAST RECURRING PIECES
  • USING ENAMEL TO ADD COLOR ELEMENTS
